Home Alone–And Lovin’ It — 16 Comments

  1. Good Afternoon,
I can sure relate to what you have written. As a new widow,it has taken me a while to adjust to being alone. Learning that it makes no difference when I do what or when. There is no one to consider except my little sidekick Lucy. She never leaves my side. Since John has gone to heaven she acts like she is responsible for me.
Having time to contemplate and commune with God is a time I have come to treasure. It is a time to retool and rethink. Also to be grateful for all the blessings that God has given me.
So all in all, Karen – yes alone time is a much needed time.
    Blessings to you

    • Thank you, Joan. It is so good to hear you are doing well, finding God closer than ever (as I have too) and that little Lucy is hanging out with you and keeping you company.

  2. I enjoy my alone time but I also get too much of it. I have plenty to do at home…in fact way too much so none of it gets done. It can be hard to find contentment, motivation, and purpose when I live alone and have fallen so far behind in the daily life things. I do get out and see people and I actively work on depression and physical health, but life gets hard. If it weren’t for Jesus…

  3. Karen, love this piece. I too love quiet time alone, whether it’s sitting on the couch with Don and Paige, sitting and reading, working on my laptop, or watching a favorite TV show. Those are renewing times and I too need alone time to refresh me for my interactions with others. Thanks!

  4. I am like you Karen, I need down time at home to do just the things you mentioned- reading a book, puttering on the computer and watching TV. Yes, even housework can rejuvenate you. Even though I am retired I still like to have a schedule for the day so that I get my exercise in and a few things accomplished and then enjoy the REST!

  5. I agree! I know it is great for you to be able to have a ‘free day’ to do as you please and when! It is wonderful to be able to have some peace and quiet and be alone to do whatever??? I had a lot of lonely times when I was alone after Herb died but even then, it was good to not have to be on a schedule. NOW that I am living with my daughter and son-in-law I find that even tho I love it when they are not working and we can be together, I really look forward to when they go back to work on Monday, but don’t let her know I told you! BIG smile! Even when they are home I spend time reading my devotions each morning and have my prayer time, but when they are not here I can sit around in my gown until I get in the mood to dress, write on my book, read, and I take a nap with the Kitty Cat in my lap almost every afternoon after lunch, then more reading and writing~~~well, you get the picture. I may be ninety years old but I still like to have something to do so I will not get stagnant!! I don’t think I will ever get “old” as long as I enjoy being busy but at my own pace. I need something to do or I would get old! Now you can LOL !
P.S. I thought this meant “lots of love” but learned it means “laugh out loud”.
    Lots of love anyway!! margaret

    • Actually, Margaret, LOL I’ve heard can mean ‘little old lady, ‘lots of love,’ or ‘laugh out loud,’ as you choose!! 🙂 Thanks for sharing the routine that works best for you.

  6. Yes, I love my down time and alone time. Especially to do my watercolor painting. Sometimes it’s hard to put 2 hours together uninterrupted. When I get that time, I cherish it and appreciate it. This week I actually got two whole days of painting and boy was I in heaven. When I paint, I am the closest to God. My mind is free and quiet so HE can talk to me. I am so grateful to have that. Precious. Thank you always, Karen, for your beautiful insights. love, Heidi

    • Thank you, Heidi. I’m so happy to hear that you are continuing to paint and making it a priority in your life. I’ve seen your work and it’s inspiring.

  7. How interesting as I read all the posts, how we all cherish that special time to what we truly enjoy and not the least time spent with the Lord.
One day I will pick up the paint brush – don’t know if am up to the challenge of water colors but will certainly give it a try.
    Blessings
    Joan
